The Holy Land of Tai Chi· Chenjiagou

Chenjiagou is located on Qingfeng Ridge in the southwest of Zhaobao Town, Wen County, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province. It is bordered by the Yellow River to the south and the Taihang Mountains to the north. It faces the Fuxi Hexagram Painting Platform and the confluence of the River and the Luo River across the river. Originally named Changyang Village, the world-renowned Tai Chi originated here.

During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, the founding ancestor Chen Bu, in his spare time from farming and reading, taught his descendants the method of digesting food by the opening and closing of Yin and Yang, which was rooted in Tai Chi. This was the traditional martial art passed down in the Chen family.

During the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Chen Wangting, the ninth generation inheritor, based on the ancestral martial arts, drew on the strengths of various schools, combined the principles of Yin and Yang and the Five elements in the I Ching, and integrated the knowledge of meridians and the techniques of guiding and breathing in traditional Chinese medicine, creating a new type of martial arts that harmonizes Yin and Yang and combines hardness and softness, namely Chen-style Tai Chi.

Tai Chi Chuan has a long history, orderly inheritance, clear principles and a self-contained system. It is a treasure of Chinese culture and a common wealth of all mankind.

For over three hundred years, the secret that was uniquely obtained by the Chen family in Chenjiagou has evolved into numerous schools such as Chen, Yang, Wu, He, Wu and Sun.

In 2007, the Chinese Wushu Association and the Folklore Association officially named Chenjiagou in Wen County as the “Birthplace of Chinese Wushu Tai Chi”, “Birthplace of Chinese Tai Chi” and “Research Base of Chinese Tai Chi Culture”. Chenjiagou has become a Tai Chi holy land that people all over the world yearn for.

Songquan Cup

From the end of January to the beginning of February 2019, the “Songquan” Cup 4th Chenjiagou Village Tai Chi Exchange Competition was about to open. Mr. Yang Songquan, the chief coach of Beijing Chenjiagou Tai Chi Training Center, was invited to lead his disciples to Chenjiagou to participate in the “Tai Chi Development Forum” and the “4th Chenjiagou Village Tai Chi Competition Master Friendship Gathering”, and exchange and share with many world-renowned and outstanding Tai Chi masters.

Tracing one’s roots and paying homage to ancestors

In addition to the meeting schedule, the master led his disciples to visit famous scenic spots such as the ancestral hall of Taiji Quan, the ancestral forest, the Taiji Museum, the place where Taiji Quan was created in Donggou, the mausoleum of Chen Gong Zhaopi, the place where Yang Lu studied Taiji in Chan, the Martial Arts Society, and the Taiji Cultural Park, paying homage to the predecessors of all dynasties and experiencing the culture of Taiji.
