
On the afternoon of November 29th, the first Zhao PI Tai Chi Culture Seminar and the Tai Chi Inheritance Ceremony of Master Yang Songquan in Chenjiagou, hosted by the Law School Trade Union and the Alumni Association of Peking University, was successfully held in Room B102 of Kaiyuan Building.

Chen Peilin, vice chairman of Henan Tai Chi Association and deputy director of Chenjiagou Chen Family Council, Chen Wanjun, secretary of Chenjiagou Historical and Cultural Research Association and Family Council of Wen County, Henan Province, Yuan Tao, executive director of Chenjiagou International Tai Chi Academy, Yang Songquan, a Tai Chi master from Beijing Chenjiagou Tai Chi Training Center, and his wife Su Xiaotang, director of Tai Chi Network, Li Chao, More than 60 people, including Li Zhengye, vice chairman of the Jincheng City Wushu Association, and other guests, as well as faculty and alumni from the Law School, attended the symposium. The meeting was presided over by Professor Zhang Shouwen from the Law School.

First, all the participants watched a short video together, retracing the daily life of the faculty and staff of Peking University Law School who have been practicing Tai Chi under the meticulous guidance and inspiration of Master Yang Songquan over the past eight years, showcasing the vigorous development and popularity of Chen-style Tai Chi at Peking University Law School.
Subsequently, Guo Li, the Party Secretary of the Law School of Peking University, delivered a welcoming speech. Professor Guo Li introduced that Peking University has a long tradition of promoting Tai Chi, shared his own experiences and insights in learning Chen-style Tai Chi, and pointed out that practicing Tai Chi can enhance physical fitness and cultivate the mind for individuals, promote communication and maintain harmony in society, and boost cultural confidence and foster a good atmosphere in the country. He encouraged the teachers and students of the Law School to achieve the unity of self-cultivation and character nurturing through the practice of Tai Chi, to reflect on themselves every day, to unite their minds and efforts, to practice cultural confidence and the national project for inheriting excellent traditional culture, and to contribute to the school’s efforts and overcome difficulties in the new eraLay a solid foundation.

Afterwards, Chen Wanjun, the secretary of the Chenjiagou Historical and Cultural Research Association and the Family Council, delivered a congratulatory speech. He traced the development of Chen-style Tai Chi, elaborated on the Tai Chi culture and stories of Chenjiagou, the birthplace of Tai Chi, and advocated that the guests present not only practice Tai Chi and build up their bodies but also inherit and carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, jointly contributing to the global spread of Tai Chi culture.

Subsequently, Yang Xiaolei, the vice dean of the Law School of Peking University, read out the congratulatory letters sent by Chen Bing, the president of the Chenjiagou Tai Chi Association and the president of the Chenjiagou International Tai Chi Institute, Chen Xubin, the president of the Chenjiagou Tai Chi Inheritance and Development Research Association, and Chen Yihua, the president of the Chenjiagou Chen Family Council, for this symposium and inheritance ceremony.

At the seminar, the participants shared their insights and experiences based on their own practice of Chen-style Tai Chi, centering on the theme of “Inheriting the Treasure of Chen-style Zhaopi Tai Chi and Promoting the excellent traditional Chinese Culture”. The atmosphere was lively. They stated that Tai Chi promotes physical health and enhances the vitality of the body, while Tai Chi culture can play a role in strengthening the body through Tai Chi, cultivating people through culture, and promoting the Dao and nurturing the right path. The practice of traditional Tai Chi by the faculty and staff is a manifestation of Peking University’s emphasis on sports and its commitment to the spirit advocated by the former president of Peking University, Mr. CAI Yuanpei, that “a complete personality begins with sports.” The continuous and flowing characteristics of Tai Chi, as well as the profound and extensive traditional Tai Chi culture with a long history, are just like the reflection of the unremitting exploration and diligent pursuit of the Law School of Peking University on the path of the rule of law.



During the inheritance ceremony, in the presence of all the guests, Master Yang Songquan accepted the applications of the attending faculty and staff and presented the certificates of inheritance. Subsequently, Li Li, Wang Wei and Liu Yiling, coaches from Beijing Chenjiagou Tai Chi Training Center, Wang Jiancheng, a professor from the Law School, Li Zhengye, vice chairman of Jincheng Wushu Association, and Li Chao, director of Tai Chi Network, respectively delivered speeches, congratulating the successful holding of the inheritance ceremony.




After that, Master Yang Songquan delivered a speech. He reviewed the development history of Chen-style Tai Chi and the life experiences of Chen Zhaopi, a master of Chen-style Tai Chi, vividly expounded on the concepts of great harmony, great unity and great health in Tai Chi culture. He expressed that he would persist in learning and spreading the teachings, and continue to contribute to the promotion of excellent traditional Chinese culture. With this, he encouraged and wished everyone present to practice diligently, cultivate both internally and externally, and promote the prosperous development of the Law School of Peking University. Make greater achievements in the construction of the rule of law in the country.

In his concluding remarks, Lu Jiangnan, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Law School of Peking University, expressed his sincere gratitude to all the guests who had come from afar and highly affirmed the promoting role that Chen-style Tai Chi has played in enhancing the cohesion of the school and the sense of belonging of the faculty and staff. He stated that in the future, the Law School of Peking University will adhere to upholding the right path and being down-to-earth, persevere with determination, enhance cultural awareness and confidence, and do a good job in carrying forward and inheriting the fine traditional Chinese culture.
